"You can't make other people happy if you yourself aren't happy."
- You could have done better -
Even before Lu' was born, he had his life planned out for him. Both his mother and father were captive lions and were paired strategically to produce a show offspring. The zoo they lived in was in low funding times, and needed more money by the end of spring if they wanted to stay open to the public, thus, they devised a plan in order to attract the attention of public eyes. What is more interesting than a family of Leucistic lions, they thought. And they were right. After Lu's birth, it struck the county and the next on over. Before they knew it, they had an audience of people from all around filling the stores and crowding the shows. It was a dream come true. The employees of the park had more money than they could ever wish for, and with the money came fame. A few months into raising Lu', the zoo began getting calls from various companies, asking to model the youth. Of course, they'd get a good sum along with it, so why wouldn't they accept? During these months, Lu' rarely got to see his parents. It wasn't until he was in between 6 - 7 months old his model career was put on hold and he was returned to the park to find his mother and father waiting patiently for him. Unlike his father, Lu' mother wasn't too keen on his return, she wished for him to earn as much income for the zoo as he could. "You could have done better." She'd always say.
- I need to know how the story ends -
Lu' remained in his home until several years and passed, however, his first year of life would undoubtedly be the toughest stage in his life hood. Lu's mother expected nothing less than perfect from her son, and she was the type it was her way or the highway, thus, for months on end she'd push him to his limits. Through rain and blazing heat, she would have his hold a pose without budging, only allowing him to eat and drink every few hours or so. Even though his bones ached and muscles cramped, Lu' never once considered objecting to his mother's request. He wanted to meet her expectations, and show her he could do anything she asked. Little did he know, no one can be perfect. Had it not been for his father's comfort and encouraging words, Lu' would most likely have been drove into the dirt. Lun' father was the only voice of reason in his mother's case. It's most likely that Lu's inner kind nature derives from his father's side. After a long day of his mother growling, Lu' would be able to fall asleep hearing stories his father had created. It wasn't hard to say that he was a daddy's boy. Over a period of a few months Lu' had every story memorized to a T. This would come in handy after a few weeks. One morning, after his father had told him a new story, Lu' had found their den empty and his mother sulking in a corner. It was the first time in nearly a year that she didn't wake him with shouts and bites to the neck. This was concerning. Lu' was confused as to what could be so effective on her. Rather than bother her, Lu' went off in search for his father to inquire what had occurred in his sleep. It was then that he realized, his loving father was no where in sight. For several hours, all Lu' did was desperately search the grounds. It wasn't until sun down that his mother managed to explain his father had passed the previous night, and would not be returning. "B-But, he didn't finish the story..." Lu' would explain,"He never told me what happened! I need to know how the story ends..."
- I will succeed -
After his father's death, everything went downhill. His mother rarely spoke to him, and secluded herself in the cave they slept in. He couldn't remember the last time she got up and got herself something to drink or eat. Lu' often would bring her part of the carcass they were thrown. Yet, after weeks, the meat began to pile up and rot, leaving an awful stench to fill the enclosure. It wasn't long before he found that the stench wasn't just the rotting meat, but also his mother beginning to decay. In a matter of less than a year, Lun' had lost both the only beings he had cared for. Even worse, he never knew if he had met their standards, for, never once, did his mother even praise him, or even offer a "Good job" and this thought alone sent him into a deep depression. However, he wouldn't meet their same fate, Lu' was now bound and determined to fulfill their expectations. From that moment on, he did whatever was asked of him, willingly without question; waking him for a single photo, ok, put on a show for the people, ok, pose in the same position for hours, ok. Whatever it took, it would be done. Though, this took it's tole on Lu's physical appearance, he soon became severely underweight to a point each rib could be clearly seen. This made it to where no one was interested in paying for a picture of an ugly lion. Therefore, his exhibit was shut down until further notice. The act angered Lu'. If no one came, he could live to fulfill his parents dreams. The image of his mother and father's disappointed faces made him sick to his stomach, consequently, Lu' grew exceptionally aggressive towards his handlers, hereby having to force them to chain him to a tree in order to feed him, seeing he had a bad habit of reaching through the fence and grabbing them when they tried to throw him his meal. "I will succeed." He'd often tell himself.
- A place to call home -
It was around a year give or take before Lu' reached the required weight and his show was once again open to the public. However, by this time, people had moved on to bigger and better things. Leaving the zoo back in it's rundown state. Unable to afford the cost, the founder of the park shipped Lu' off to a nature facility. This location had a bad reputation hidden under their sleeve. His first few weeks were oddly calm. However, it shifted one day when they were feeding him. They did as his previous handlers did, latched a chain onto a tree and connected it to his foot. This wasn't out of the norm, the only question he thought about was why they were doing such a thing when he was no longer aggressive towards them. No matter, he ate in peace. Though, when he was done, they never did return to release him. Then the pieces fell together. They had no intention on letting him run around anymore, and seeing how this facility was not open to the public, no one would be there to rescue him. It wasn't for two years that his life changed again. It was in the late evening that a loud ruckus woke him from a nap. In the distance, a sky full of smoke and rising flames could be seen. In a panic, Lu' began to violently tug away from the tree trunk he was bound to. However, his efforts were futile and it wasn't long before the tree itself was engulfed in flames. The metal around his ankle started to increase in temperature and burn away his fur and singe his skin. The pain was unbearable, yet, in his favor the tree had burn to ash allowing him to yank free from the restraint, though, majority of the chain lays still wrapped around his foot. Now free, Lu' has been roaming awaiting to find a place where he could again call home.
